History
History
Until 31 January 2011, krbs stood for Kent Reliance Building Society which was created in 1986, incorporating Chatham Reliance (established 1898), Dover District (established 1861), Herne Bay (established 1888) and Kent and Canterbury (established 1847). For over 150 years these organisations were proud to serve the people of Kent.
On 1 February 2011, Kent Reliance Building Society transferred its business to a new bank, OneSavings Bank plc (which trades as Kent Reliance), whilst at the same time J.C. Flowers & Co, one of the world’s largest private equity firms, made a substantial capital investment in the new bank.
As part of the new structure, an industrial and provident society (another form of mutual) called Kent Reliance Provident Society Limited became the parent organisation of the new bank. The members of Kent Reliance Building Society (which has now ceased to exist) became members of Kent Reliance Provident Society Limited.
Establishing OneSavings Bank plc has enabled us to maintain our tradition of good customer service while strengthening our business. It gives us the opportunity to offer a wider range of products and services, including new lending products, continuing our tradition of innovation. We have also retained the Kent Reliance name and heritage in our business going forward.
